Super Sibs
At Leeds Mencap we run a weekly group for children and young people aged 8 – 16 who have a brother or sister with learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs.
Super Sibs is our exciting, newly refreshed group for siblings, running every Wednesday during term time. Most sessions run from The Vinery Centre, and thanks to funding from the National Lottery, we also have regular trips where the group will meet at a range of venues across Leeds.
Our Super Sibs play an important role in planning all of their sessions and trips, which have recently included Flip Out, Putt & Play, Hollywood Bowl and The Escapologist escape rooms. Our Centre was designed with fun in mind, so sessions have a range of great activities like movie nights, crafts, baking, games night as well as time to burn off some energy in our in-house soft play area or chill out at the end of a long day in our calming sensory room.
Importantly, we know that having a sibling with additional needs can sometimes come with a wide range of specific challenges, and having time with friends old and new that have similar experiences and truly understand this, can be really helpful. Super Sibs allows our children and young people time together to just chat, share and be together. We also have the option for our Super Sibs to access recognised and verified online means of support during sessions from organisations such as NSPCC and Kooth.
All of our clubs focus on fun and friendship, and Super Sibs tell us that this is why they come every week.
