Chats & Tots

Chats & Tots is our weekly group for parents of children aged 0-5 with additional needs.

Our family services team run this relaxed and inclusive group at The Vinery Centre during term-time. Gain peer support and gain advice from the Family Support Team in a friendly, relaxed setting.

Where to find us

The group runs at The Vinery Centre from 9:30 - 11:00 on Friday during school term times.

There is on-site parking at the back of the building, and we are accessible via many major bus routes.

Chats & Tots Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to to pay?

The session is completely free - there is no cost or donation required. Refreshments are provided by the team, but feel free to bring along your own snacks and drinks (though please check-in with a member of staff about allergies when you arrive).

Can I bring siblings with/without additional needs?

Yes! Siblings are more than welcome. Please note that this is an early years group, so equipment and activities will be most suited for children aged 0-5. In the event an older sibling wants to come along (for example, if it's a school inset day) this normally won't be a problem - but you can give us a ring to check suitability.

Can I come along without a child?

Yes, absolutely! Chats & Tots is as much about parents and it is children. Please do feel free to come along for a chat and coffee with or without a little one.

Do I need to stay with my child?

Yes please. While the Family Support team are on hand to chat and engage with you and your child, children are sole responsibility of parents at all times. We encourage free play and movement between the rooms, but please supervise your child during this.

Does my child need a diagnosis?

No. There's no diagnosis required to come along to Chats & Tots. We are an inclusive space for children with a range of needs.

How busy is the group?

As we don't operate a booking system, we can't say how many people will attend each week. However, we usually see somewhere between 6-10 families come along each week. We split the group over 3 rooms in our centre, so typically there is always a quiet space that can be accessed if necessary.

Do you run in school holidays?

Mostly not. Our centre is busy with Playscheme during many weeks of the school holidays. In the event we are running a Chats & Tots session outside of term-time we will advertise the event on social media.

I'm nervous about coming to a new group or I'm not sure if this group is right for my child.

Chats & Tots aims to be as relaxed and friendly as possible, there is no set structure to the session and you're welcome to come and go as you please. If you'd like to speak to a member of the team before coming along for the first time, feel free to send us a message (familyservices@leedsmencap.org.uk) or give us a ring (0113 235 1331). We know new environments can be unsettling, and we're happy to take some time to welcome you to the Centre for 10/15 minutes before a session to let you adjust to the space before anyone else arrives - just ask!
