Join our team
If you’re interested in using your skills, knowledge and talents to make a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families, we’d love to hear from you.
We are looking to employ a SEND Practitioner with at least a Level 3 Childcare Qualification to work in our friendly Community Nursery supporting children with additional needs. With more than one role available, we offer the opportunity to work all year round or term time only.
Volunteering at Leeds Mencap
Volunteers are essential to Leeds Mencap so thank you in advance for thinking of spending your time with us.
When it comes to what we need help with, the possibilities are endless! Whether it’s helping in our nursery, clubs and holiday playschemes, supporting on reception, in the office or with maintenance, supporting our fundraising team or helping keep our database up to date – if you have the skills to share and a passion for helping others, we would love to hear from you.
In return you’ll have an induction, training, and support relevant to the role you’re in. You’ll work in a supportive and welcoming team in a vibrant busy centre where no 2 days are the same. Most important of all you’ll go home at the end of the day knowing that you’ve helped children and young people with learning disabilities and their families live their lives to the full.
Working at Leeds Mencap

- well supported,
- have enthusiastic and talented people around you,
- work in a bright, clean, vibrant environment with free parking and bike park on site, and
- generous annual leave entitlement.
“Leeds Mencap is a very supportive working environment where everyone works as a team and supports each other to create the best outcomes we can for the children, young people and families that access our services.” – Hannah Ford, Activities Coordinator
“I made the right choice by doing my apprenticeship at Jimbo’s Community Nursery-Leeds Mencap because there was such a welcoming environment from the beginning and all the staff were very caring and supportive. Staff support and training opportunities have certainly helped me grow as an apprentice by building my skills and knowledge.” – Kashma, Apprentice
“My favourite thing about volunteering was coming into the office every Friday. I loved the calmness of the office and everyone who I encountered … was nice and welcoming. The CEO always offered me a ‘posh coffee’ which was always a great cup of coffee and made me feel like a regular part of the team.“ – Mason, Volunteer
