What we offer
At Leeds Mencap, we recognise the impact having a child with a learning disability can have on the whole family and offer a range of support for everyone.
We run a number of activity groups during school term times for children and young adults aged 8 to 30. This includes three youth groups for children and young adults with a learning disability and a youth group for young people who have a sibling with a learning disability. During the school holidays we run weekly Playschemes – these are for children and young people with learning disabilities, with varying age ranges between 4 and 18. These groups and activities provide a range of opportunities for children and young people to try new skills in a safe and welcoming environment, meet understanding peers and have fun!
We also offer a variety of support for families – with support that can be accessed over the phone, in-person or online to suit your needs. Our family services team are here to help, with specialist knowledge on issues such as getting a diagnosis, accessing benefits and education including education, health and care (EHC) plans. We’re here to advocate for you, listen to you, support you and can point you in the right direction of additional services you can access.
