Our family support

We know having a child with a learning disability can come with unique experiences that leave you looking for an understanding peer group, in need of specialist advice, or unsure of where to turn to.

Our family services team offer a wide variety of support that can be accessed over the phone, in-person or online.

Family services caseworker

Our Family Support Workers have specialist SEN knowledge and can offer you support on issues including getting a diagnosis, helping signpost you to additional services and education including Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.

We can help you find the right support networks and be an advocate by supporting you to express your views and understand your rights. To get in touch, please complete our Family Services Contact Form and a member of the team will get back to you as soon as possible.

Chat & Tots group (with sensory and soft play)

Chat & Tots is an informal and inclusive group for parents/carers of a child aged 0-5 with additional needs. Chat & Tots are an opportunity to meet other parents, share experiences and chat to our caseworker for advice, information and support. Sessions run from The Vinery Centre, LS9 9LU, every Friday during term time from 9:30am to 11am.

These sessions are free of charge and there’s no need to book – just come along! Our soft-play and sensory room will be open for any attending children, so feel free to bring them along or come alone.

SEND Toy and Resource Library

Borrow from over 130 pieces of specialist equipment – ranging from large outdoor equipment to developmental toys. The library is available for families to borrow and try out toys to enhance at-home provision and support development for a one-time fee of £25 for 12 months of unlimited access.

Web resources

These include webinars from our Family Services team, downloadable resources, and easily accessible advice on a range of topics including sleep, behaviour, communication, and navigating SEND support across Leeds.

These resources are available completely free of charge.

Workshops and training

Our family services team are qualified to deliver a variety of training including sleep (via The Sleep Charity) and support for behaviour and family relationships (via Care for the Family).

Our Family Support ‘Solid Foundations Project’ is funded by the Masonic Charitable Foundation until April 24
