Marketing and Communications Volunteer
Role summary
Leeds Mencap is a local, independent charity that helps children and young people with learning disabilities across Leeds. Life is challenging and can be isolating for people with learning disabilities and we are here to ensure families get the best support they need so their children can fulfil their potential in life.
We looking for enthusiastic and motivated volunteers to join our team to help us raise more funds, engage more people and create awareness of our charity. This role is varied and there is the opportunity to use skills and expertise in marketing, communications and social media in a charity setting.
Key duties
- Updating social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X) using Lightful, monitoring activity and responding to interactions.
- Growing the presence of Leeds Mencap and its social media following.
- Building and sustaining relationships within our online community.
- Writing content (e.g. posters, blogs, press releases, newsletters) for a range of audiences to inform, engage, and inspire.
- Designing information and promotional materials using Canva.
Skills, knowledge and attitude
Volunteers may have a passion for fundraising or marketing, or be enthusiastic about communications or graphic design. For this role, volunteers need to be creative and have excellent written communication skills. Experience of managing social media accounts and/or improving social media presence and engagement is desirable.
Commitment
Volunteers should be able to commit to 3 hours a week, for a minimum of 6 months, ideally longer.

All posts are subject to an enhanced DBS check. There is no cost to the volunteer for this. Details will be given upon induction.
Travel costs and any additional expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
