Danny McGuire - Leeds Mencap Ambassador
Leeds Rhino's Danny McGuire has agreed to become Leeds Mencap's Ambassador during a formal presentation with some of the families that attend our Hawthorn Family Support Centre. The Centre supports families who have very young children (0-3 years) with a learning disability
We would like to thank Danny and recognise all the wonderful work he has done to support the organisation. Danny does so much for us and we are repeatedly overwhelmed by his support.
Danny continually donates his Man of the Match prize to us, live on sky sports (and he wins it a lot!) This has meant donations of hundreds of pounds as well as priceless publicity on national television. This publicity has led many different people to contact Leeds Mencap wanting to make a donation or help in some way.
Danny comes to as many of our events as he can, most recently attending our annual fundraising ball and our new playground opening. This is not only wonderful publicity but it also gives our service users the chance to meet a sporting star and local hero! Danny will often surprise us with his presence at events telling us that he has “just come along to see if he could lend a hand”.
Frank Plumbridge, CEO of Leeds Mencap said:
“Danny has been a magnificent supporter of Leeds Mencap over the years and we simply can’t thank him enough. We rely on the generosity of the local community and Danny is a great example of a local lad really making a difference in the area that he grew up in. Danny is already a truly wonderful ambassador for Leeds Mencap and we are delighted that we can formally recognise this with this presentation today.”
