The Rookery – Chapel Allerton

The Rookery is a residential home for 12 adults with a learning disability who may also have moderate physical and/or sensory impairment.

At the Rookery our trained staff help the residents achieve a warm and happy home life by treating them as individuals with dignity and respect.

The residents’ needs are met by our experienced staff team though a key worker system.  The key workers help the residents to produce their own care plans.  The individuals play an active role in creating their own Care Plan for example by choosing photo’s that best represent them and making work books which encourage the people who live here to talk and record what is important to them about the care they receive and what they want to achieve.

These plans also involve finding the residents occupations and leisure activities, to help them achieve life experiences and fulfil the wishes of the individual.  Our key workers help the residents to do things with the other residents as well as things on their own.

We are located in a quiet area in the heart of the local community. Within a few minutes walk you can get to local facilities such as shops pubs and restaurants, cafes, theatre, library and much more.  With good transport into the town centre and surrounding areas, Chapel Allerton is a good place to live, and the residents like to get out into the community so that they can meet new people and make friends.

When our residents choose to relax at home they are able to do so.  Whether they choose to watch television in the communal lounge or in their own rooms, play a game, sit in our large garden or chat with the staff and other people who live here.  Visitors such as friends and family are welcome anytime.  Some people who live here have their own telephone in their rooms, and everyone has access to a computer if they wish to use it.

We will soon be having a new meeting room with a kitchenette, so our residents can make a snack when they want and we can have our residents’ committee meeting in a quiet place.

It is Leeds Mencap’s aim for the people who live here to enjoy their home life and feel free to express their individuality, with their rights, choices and dignity firmly at the forefront of care and support.
